Children’s Grief Program

Research shows that children grieving the death of a parent, family member or other friend or loved one are much more likely to develop physical and psychological problems later in life if they do not receive social and emotional support to help them understand their grief. For years, Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids has been providing support to young people grieving the death of friends and family to cancer. Now, however, children ages 3-18 who are grieving the death of someone close to them for any reason – illness, accident, murder and suicide – can find support in our Children’s Grief program.

Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids offers a free, comprehensive support program for children (ages 3-18) who are grieving from the death of a friend or family member due to cancer or other health-related issues, accident, murder or suicide. Children can find support among their peers within our special groups for teens, “tweens” and younger children. Many of our adult groups meet at the same time as our children’s groups; click here for details. All of our groups are facilitated by Master’s Degree-level professionals.

Grief Nights begin at 5:30 pm on Wednesday with Supper Together – a special time to socialize and enjoy a free meal before evening group times. Groups begin promptly at 6:00 and go until 7:30 pm.
