We Are:

A breast cancer support group, primarily for women of color; all women are welcome.

Our Mission:

Women reaching women of color to inspire, embrace, nurture, and heal the spirits of those who have been challenged with breast cancer. We want to join with you on your cancer journey.

Our History:

Sister-to-Sister was founded by Nancy Dudley and Ethel Footman-Smothers in 1997. The organization is the first breast cancer support group in Grand Rapids, devoted to women of color.

Our Calling:

We provide support to one another with encouragement, education, hope, and prayers. It is our belief that a higher power joins us together and gives us strength.

We’ll talk to your family and tell them what to expect; answer their questions; and offer a caring shoulder and a listening ear. We will visit you either at home or in the hospital, as soon as we find out you have breast cancer. We may bring gift baskets of personals items as well as compassion and hugs, understanding and tears, prayers and new friendships to walk beside you.

If you would like, a Sister will go with you to your doctor’s office, to chemo-therapy, and other cancer treatments, and remain with you for company and support.

September through June
from 6-8 pm

Our Sister-to-Sister Networking Luncheon
Third Wednesday of each month
from 12-2pm

There is no charge and you are welcome to bring a friend.

If you or someone you know needs the Sisters’, please call us, email, or just come to a meeting. There are no fees to join us and you will be welcomed with open arms.

Noogieland, our children’s play area, is available while you attend meetings or workshops. You may register a spot in Noogieland 48 hours in advance by calling (616) 453-8300 or 800-326-1419.

We are pleased to be in a partnership with Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, a free cancer support community. We encourage all Sisters to join Gilda’s Club, as there are many additional activities for people living with any kind of cancer, and for their loved ones and friends.
