Grief Support groups hosted at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids provide a place to share and learn with others who have experienced the death of a person, from any cause, in their life. Facilitated by licensed professionals, we provide specialized groups for adults, children, and those who have experienced traumatic death. All grief support groups are offered free.

Research shows that children grieving the death of a parent, family member, other friend or loved one are much more likely to develop physical and psychological problems later in life if they do not receive social and emotional support to help them understand their grief. Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids hosts a free, comprehensive support program for children (ages 3-18) who are grieving from the death of a friend or family member due to cancer or other health-related issues, accident, murder or suicide. Children can find support among their peers within our special groups for teens, tweens, and younger children. All of our groups are facilitated by Master’s Degree-level professionals.
Grief Nights begin at 5:30 pm on Wednesday with Supper Together – a special time to socialize and enjoy a free meal before evening group times. Traumatic death profoundly impacts families psychologically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Healing and recovery therefore need to focus on each of these areas. Families impacted by traumatic death and sudden death not only have to deal with the grief expected with any death but also must learn to manage symptoms of trauma. Trauma and traumatic death challenge our basic sense of safety and control in the world and can negatively impact the ability of families and individuals to function.
